 Fórum Literário (Re)lendo a História

 

No dia 1 de julho de 2015, o Clube Europeu da Escola Profissional da Horta executou mais uma das suas iniciativas para dar voz ao lema do Ano Europeu do Desenvolvimento ‘ o nosso mundo, a nossa dignidade, o nosso futuro’. Como preparar o nosso futuro, passa grandemente por refletirmos sobre a nossa história, repercutir o bom que foi feito, aprender com os erros, considerou-se importante evocar a história da cidade da Horta como meio cosmopolita. Desta forma, e recorrendo à literatura, organizou-se um fórum literário denominado (Re)lendo a história, em que se fez a leitura do livro A Guerra não era ali de Yollanda Corcepius. 

A escolha deste livro relacionou-se com o lema, dado que se trata de uma narrativa de uma senhora imigrante que viveu a infância na nossa ilha durante a 2ª guerra mundial, altura em que o Faial desempenhava um papel fundamental nas comunicações telegráficas intercontinentais. Ingleses, alemães e americanos conseguiam, apesar do conflito internacional, viver em paz. Para tornar presente esta leitura, todos os participantes no fórum foram convidados a dar um passeio pela Horta, passando por alguns dos sítios referidos na narrativa.

É que a história volta a repetir-se… vivemos num mundo de muitas culturas e é fundamental conhecermos o passado para que se possa viver em harmonia na nossa sociedade.

Literary Forum (Re)Reading History

On June 1^st  2015, The European Club of Horta professional School organised one of their several initiatives to give voice to the motto of the European Year for the Development ‘our world, our dignity, our future’. As preparing our future, implies greatly a reflection about our History, repeating the good things and learning with the bad, the members of the Club considered important to remind the History of Horta as a cosmopolitan city. In this way, and resorting to Literature, they organised a literary forum called (Re)Reading History, in which the book A Guerra não era Ali (The War was not there) by Yollanda Corcepius was read. The choice of this book is related to the motto, because it is a narrative written by an immigrant woman who lived her childhood in our island during the Second Sorld War, a time, in which, Faial island played an important role in the telegraphic intercontinental communications. English, Germans and Americans, despite the international conflict, found a way of living in peace. To make the reading more real, the participants in the forum were invited for a walking tour in the streets of Horta, going past some of the places mentioned in the narrative.

It’s that, history repeats itself… we live in a world of many cultures and it is imperative to know our past so that we can live in harmony in our society.
